Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Compare total interest with the profit.

Hint 2

If profit is short, share it in the ratio of interest due.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Interest at 6%: Nidhi ₹ 18,000, Kunal ₹ 12,000 (total ₹ 30,000), but profit is only ₹ 15,000. Interest on capital is an appropriation, so it cannot exceed profit.

  2. The ₹ 15,000 is shared in the ratio of interest 18,000 : 12,000 = 3 : 2: Nidhi ₹ 9,000, Kunal ₹ 6,000. Option (C).

    1 mark

Answer: (C) Nidhi ₹ 9,000 ; Kunal ₹ 6,000
