Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Fix the shares of Chunni and Munni first, then split what remains between Raju and Rinku.

Hint 2

Sacrifice = old share − new share; a negative result is a gain.

Hint 3

Both the new partner and any gaining old partner compensate the sacrificers.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. New ratio. Chunni gets 1/5 and Munni 1/4. Left for Raju and Rinku = 1 − 1/5 − 1/4 = 11/20, shared 3 : 1: Raju = 33/80, Rinku = 11/80. Munni = 20/80, Chunni = 16/80. New ratio = 33 : 11 : 20 : 16.

    1 mark
  2. Sacrifice. Raju 48/80 − 33/80 = 15/80; Rinku 16/80 − 11/80 = 5/80; Munni 16/80 − 20/80 = −4/80 (a gain of 1/20). Sacrificing ratio of Raju and Rinku = 15 : 5 = 3 : 1.

    1 mark
  3. Goodwill entry. Chunni's share = ₹ 3,20,000 × 1/5 = ₹ 64,000; Munni's gain = ₹ 3,20,000 × 1/20 = ₹ 16,000. The total ₹ 80,000 goes to Raju and Rinku in 3 : 1. Chunni brings nothing, so his Current A/c is debited.
