Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Are resources equally available in all regions?

Hint 2

Give examples of states rich in one resource but poor in another.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Planning is the accepted strategy for judicious use of resources, especially in India, where resources are distributed very unevenly across regions.

    1 mark
  2. Some regions are rich in certain resources but poor in others. For example, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are rich in minerals and coal. Arunachal Pradesh has plenty of water but little infrastructure. Rajasthan has solar and wind energy but little water. This calls for balanced planning at national, state, regional and local levels.

    1 mark

Answer: Resources are unevenly spread, so planning is needed to balance their use at all levels.

Where the marks are

  • Planning is the accepted strategy given India's diversity in resource availability (1 mark)
  • Regional imbalance explained with an example, needing balanced planning (1 mark)
