Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Every food chain must start with a producer eaten by a herbivore.
Hint 2
Check whether each organism can actually eat the one before it.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
(i) Grass → rabbit → wolf → lion is a valid chain.
(iii) Grass → grasshopper → frog → snake → hawk is a valid chain.
(ii) has no proper sequence: man does not eat plankton, and grasshoppers do not eat man. (iv) fails because a snake does not eat grass.
- 1 mark
So (ii) and (iv) are not food chains, and the answer is option (D).
Answer: (ii) and (iv), option (D)
Where the marks are
