Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
First pick out the producers in the list (green plants).
Hint 2
Build one chain from each producer, then link them through an animal that appears in both.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- ½ mark
Food chain 1 (producer: trees): Trees → Insects → Bird → Owl
- ½ mark
Food chain 2 (producer: grass): Grass → Insects → Frog → Snake → Owl
- 1 mark
Food web: draw the two chains with arrows pointing from food to feeder, joined at the organisms they share (insects and owl). The insects feed on both trees and grass. The insects are eaten by both the bird and the frog. The owl eats both the bird and the snake. This interlinking forms the web. Another valid example is Trees (leaves) → Zebra → Tiger and Grass → Zebra → Tiger, joined at the zebra.
Answer: Chain 1: Trees → Insects → Bird → Owl; Chain 2: Grass → Insects → Frog → Snake → Owl; joined at insects/owl to form a web (any correct pair with different producers is acceptable).
Where the marks are
- Correct food chain starting with one producer, e.g. trees (½ mark)
- Correct food chain starting with a different producer, e.g. grass (½ mark)
- Joins the chains at a common organism with correct arrows to form a web (1 mark)
