CBSE Class 10 Science sample paper 2025-26: question 32
From the official CBSE sample question paper for 2025-26, section C, question 32, for 1 mark. Try it first; the hints and our step-by-step solution are below.
Q32 · 1 mark · Assertion-reasonCompetency-basedLight – Reflection and Refraction
The following question consists of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these questions by selecting the appropriate option given below:
A. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
B. Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.
C. A is true but R is false.
D. A is false but R is true.
Assertion (A): A point object is placed at a distance of 26 cm from a convex mirror of focal length 26 cm. The image will not form at infinity.
Reason (R): For above given system the equation gives .
- (A)Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
- (B)Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.
- (C)A is true but R is false.
- (D)A is false but R is true.

Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
For a convex mirror, the focal length is positive.
Hint 2
Substitute u = −26 cm into the mirror formula and solve for v.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
For a convex mirror, cm and cm.
cm. A virtual image forms 13 cm behind the mirror, not at infinity.
- 1 mark
So A is true and R (which claims ) is false. Option (C).
Answer: Option (C)
Where the marks are
- Uses the sign convention to get v = +13 cm and concludes A true, R false (1 mark)
