    Sir/Madam,

Sub: Financial literacy education for children

As a counsellor, I believe financial literacy is a vital 21st-century skill that schools and homes must nurture early.

  3. Children who learn to save, budget and spend wisely become financially independent adults who avoid debt and plan for the future. Understanding the power of money helps young learners make informed choices, resist impulsive buying and value effort. Skills learned in childhood stay for life, as habits formed early become second nature.

    2 marks
  4. To raise awareness among parents, schools can hold workshops and parent-teacher sessions, and the media can run campaigns. Parents can give children small budgets, piggy banks and household money tasks to practise with. Community centres and banks can offer short courses.

I hope you will give this letter space in your columns.

    Yours faithfully,
    Chitra Mahapatra
