Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Find Firm B's GVA first: its only input is bought from Firm A.
Hint 2
Value of output = domestic sales + exports + change in stock.
Hint 3
Purchases by A from B are A's intermediate consumption.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- ½ mark
Gross value added of Firm B = Value of output of B − Purchases by B from A (its intermediate consumption) = (i) − (iv)
- ½ mark
= 1,000 − 250 = ₹ 750 crore
- 1 mark
GVA of Firm A = GVA of Firm B = ₹ 750 crore (given equal).
- ½ mark
GVA of A = Domestic sales + Exports + Change in stock − Intermediate consumption, so Domestic sales of A = GVA of A − (iii) − (v) + (ii)
- ½ mark
= 750 − 200 − 150 + 300 = ₹ 700 crore
Answer: Domestic sales of Firm A = ₹ 700 crore.
Where the marks are
- GVA of B (½ + ½)
- GVA of A = GVA of B (1)
