Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Name the phases of the cycle: menstrual, follicular and luteal.

Hint 2

Which hormone dominates the luteal phase, and what does it do during pregnancy?

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Phase II (days 6–14) is the follicular phase, in which the primary follicle matures into a Graafian follicle. Statement (A) is correct.

    ½ mark
  2. Phase III is the luteal phase. The corpus luteum secretes large amounts of progesterone, which also maintains pregnancy, so statement (B) is correct. Statement (C) is wrong because there is no corpus luteum in phase I. The answer is (D).

    ½ mark

Answer: (D) Both (A) and (B)

Where the marks are

  • Identifies statements A and B as correct and chooses (D) (1 mark)
