Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Capital employed = assets − outside liabilities.
Hint 2
Super profit = average profit − normal profit.
Hint 3
Capitalise super profit at the normal rate for (i); multiply by 4 for (ii).
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- 1 mark
Capital employed = assets − external liabilities = 60,00,000 − 20,00,000 = ₹ 40,00,000. Normal profit = 10% = ₹ 4,00,000.
- 1 mark
Super profit = 8,00,000 − 4,00,000 = ₹ 4,00,000. (i) Goodwill by capitalisation of super profits = 4,00,000 × 100/10 = ₹ 40,00,000.
- 1 mark
(ii) Goodwill at four years' purchase of super profits = 4,00,000 × 4 = ₹ 16,00,000.
Answer: (i) ₹ 40,00,000 (ii) ₹ 16,00,000
