Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

The loss to the date of death does not affect goodwill.

Hint 2

With no new ratio given, the gaining ratio is the old ratio of the continuing partners.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Average profit = (3,28,000 + 3,46,000 + 4,00,000)/3 = ₹ 3,58,000; goodwill = 2 × ₹ 3,58,000 = ₹ 7,16,000; A's 5/10 share = ₹ 3,58,000.

  2. B and C continue in their old ratio 3 : 2, which is also their gaining ratio: B ₹ 2,14,800, C ₹ 1,43,200. Option (B).

    1 mark

Answer: (B) ₹ 2,14,800 and ₹ 1,43,200

Where the marks are

  • A's goodwill ₹ 3,58,000 borne 3 : 2 (1 mark)
