Hint 2

Name two goods that moved along it and the regions they connected.

Hint 3

Besides goods, what else travelled, such as religions and ideas?

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. The Silk Routes were a network of land and sea routes linking Asia with Europe and northern Africa. They existed before the Christian Era and thrived till about the fifteenth century. They show vibrant pre-modern trade.

    1 mark
  2. Goods and cultures travelled along them. Chinese silk and pottery went west, and textiles and spices from India and Southeast Asia travelled the same routes. Gold and silver flowed from Europe in return. Along with these goods, ideas, religions and art spread, e.g. Buddhism spread from India to Asia, which shows the cultural links.
