CBSE Class 10 Science sample paper 2025-26: question 34(A)
From the official CBSE sample question paper for 2025-26, section C, question 34(A), for 2 marks. Try it first; the hints and our step-by-step solution are below.
Q34(A) · 2 marks · Case-basedCompetency-basedElectricity
Find out the following in the electric circuit given in the figure:
- (i)1 mark
Effective resistance of two 8 ohm resistors in the combination.
- (ii)1 mark
Current flowing through the 4-ohm resistor.
Figure in the paper: Circuit: 8 V battery connected from point A through a 4 Ω resistor to point B, then ammeter A1 (+ at B side, − at C side) to junction C. Between C and D are two 8 Ω resistors in parallel. From D, ammeter A2 (− at D side, + at E side) returns to the battery at E, completing the loop. See it in the official paper.

Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Two equal resistors in parallel give half of one resistor.
Hint 2
Add the series resistor, then use Ohm's law with the 8 V supply.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- 1 mark
(i) The two 8 Ω resistors are in parallel:
(ii) The 4 Ω resistor is in series with :
- 1 mark
A. In series the same current flows through the 4 Ω resistor, so the current is 1 A.
Answer: (i) 4 Ω; (ii) 1 A
Where the marks are
- Parallel combination = 4 Ω (1 mark)
- Total 8 Ω and I = 1 A through the 4 Ω resistor (1 mark)
