Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Name the mode of nutrition of each organism in a group.
Hint 2
Look for the group where every organism lives on a host and feeds on it.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
Cuscuta is a plant parasite. Ticks, lice and leeches are ectoparasites, and the tapeworm is an endoparasite. Each one draws nutrition from a living host without killing it, so all of them show parasitic nutrition.
- 1 mark
None of the other groups share one mode. (A) contains yeast, which is saprophytic, and legumes, which are autotrophic. (B) and (D) contain autotrophs (cactus, grass) mixed with holozoic animals (cow, lion) and parasites. So the answer is option (C).
Answer: Option (C): Cuscuta, ticks, lice, leeches and tapeworm (all parasites)
Where the marks are
- Chooses (C), recognising that all five are parasites (1 mark)
