Q13 · 1 mark · MCQLight – Reflection and Refraction
An object is placed in front of a convex mirror. Its image is formed:
- (A)at a distance equal to the object distance in front of the mirror.
- (B)at twice the distance of the object in front of the mirror.
- (C)half the distance of the object in front of the mirror.
- (D)behind the mirror and it's position varies according to the object distance.

Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Is the image formed by a convex mirror real or virtual?
Hint 2
Where do virtual images of a mirror lie?
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
A convex mirror always forms a virtual, erect and diminished image behind the mirror, between the pole P and the focus F.
- 1 mark
As the object moves closer, the image moves from F towards P. Its position therefore depends on the object distance, so the answer is option (D).
Answer: Option (D)
Where the marks are
- States the image is virtual, behind the mirror, and its position changes with object distance (1 mark)
