Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
The fixed charge covers the first 3 days; count only the remaining days as extra.
Hint 2
7 days gives 4 extra days, 5 days gives 2 extra days; form two equations and subtract.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- 1 mark
Let fixed charge (first 3 days) be ₹ and charge per extra day be ₹. Rittik: 7 days = 3 + 4 extra days, so ...(1)
- 1 mark
Manmohan: 5 days = 3 + 2 extra days, so ...(2)
- 1 mark
Subtracting (2) from (1): ; then
Fixed charge = ₹15, charge for each extra day = ₹3.
Answer: Fixed charge ₹15; extra charge ₹3 per day
