Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Use the formal letter to an editor layout.

Hint 2

Structure the body as the problem, then who is vulnerable, then solutions, then a call to action.

Hint 3

Give concrete solutions such as workshops and strong passwords.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Format: sender's address and date; 'The Editor', name of the daily and address; subject 'Need to promote digital security'; salutation 'Sir/Madam'; close 'Yours faithfully, Amitha, Vice Head Girl, Vidya Mandir'.

    1 mark
  2. Body (about 120 words):

Through your esteemed daily, I wish to draw attention to the rising cyber-attacks affecting people of all ages.

Identity theft, financial fraud and data breaches are common. Children, the elderly and untrained users are especially vulnerable to phishing, malware and online predators, and ignorance makes the damage worse.

We must urgently promote digital hygiene. Digital literacy programmes for all age groups, and workshops, webinars and campaigns on strong passwords, spotting scams and safe browsing, would help. Schools, workplaces and communities should take part, and authorities must enforce stricter cybersecurity policies.

I urge readers, organisations and the government to act together.

    Yours faithfully,
    Amitha
