Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Format: sender's address, date, the Director, Municipal Corporation, with address, subject line, salutation 'Sir', closing and signature.

Subject: Poor condition of roads in [hometown]

    Sir,
I recently visited my hometown after four years and was dismayed at the state of its roads.

    1 mark
  2. Content: The roads are uneven, with deep cracks and potholes. These slow the daily commute, cause traffic jams and lead to accidents, endangering pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, especially after rain. I request immediate repair, regular maintenance and use of modern road-building technology.

    2 marks
  3. Organisation: a clear opening, a body on the problem and its effects, then the request, with linking words.

I hope you will look into the matter and take early action.
    Yours faithfully,
    Sulekha/Salim

    1 mark
  4. Accuracy: correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, in 100-120 words.
