Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Use formal letter format with the sender's address at the top.

Hint 2

Explain why unsafe footpaths put pedestrians at risk.

Hint 3

End with specific requests: repair, maintenance, new construction.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Format: sender's address 409, Surya Apartments, Gopalpur; date; receiver: The MLA, Gopalpur; salutation 'Respected Sir/Madam'; subject: Need for repair and construction of footpaths.

    1 mark
  2. Body para 1: I am a concerned resident. Safe footpaths are essential for pedestrian safety, yet the footpaths on the main roads are damaged in many places. They are also encroached upon by vendors and parked vehicles, forcing people to walk on the road, which risks accidents.

    1 mark
  3. Body para 2: I request you to get the existing footpaths repaired and regularly maintained, to clear encroachments and to construct new footpaths on stretches where none exist.

    1 mark
  4. Close: I hope for your prompt action. Thanking you. Yours sincerely, Nalini Sharda. The language is formal, paragraphed and accurate (about 120 words).
