Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 2

Recall what Bholi was like before and after school.

Hint 3

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. (i) No. Education gave Bholi the confidence and strength to stand up for herself. It taught her to judge the greedy dowry demand rationally. Without it, she would have stayed timid and accepted the marriage.

  2. (ii) Henry was a waiter at the French hotel where Ausable had a room. He played a key part in Ausable's plan. When he knocked at the door, Max thought it was the police and panicked, which gave Ausable the upper hand.

  3. (iii) The Think-Tank took the rhyme as a threat. It decided that the Earthlings had advanced technology. It thought they grew rare metals and high explosives, which they could use against Mars.
