Retail Trade, Itinerant Retailers and Small Fixed Shops (ISC Class 11)
Updated 17 October 2026 · Fact-checked
Retail trade is the sale of goods and services in small quantities directly to final consumers. Its features include dealing directly with consumers, small quantities, a personal link with customers and being the last link in the distribution chain. Retailers are itinerant (without a fixed place: hawkers, peddlers, cheap jacks, street traders) or fixed-shop (general stores, speciality stores, street stalls and second-hand goods shops).
The retailer is the last link before the consumer, and retailers are either itinerant (no fixed place) or small fixed shops.
