- 1 mark
Opening: greet the audience ('Good morning, everyone') and state that each portrayal of women offers different insight into women's experiences.
- 4 marks
Model speech:
Good morning, everyone.
As I analysed the allotted texts, I noticed that each portrayal of women was unique, yet all offered insight into women's experiences in society.
Aunt Jennifer is a victim of patriarchy, unable to gain the freedom and strength she desires, and she expresses them only through her fearless tigers. Sophie in 'Going Places' is ambitious and refuses to be limited by her gender, while her mother has conformed and sacrificed her individuality.
In 'Lost Spring', the women of Firozabad are resilient in the face of poverty and caste constraints, though their acceptance is closer to resignation. The mother in 'My Mother at Sixty-six' is vulnerable and needs protection, and her daughter hides her fear behind a smile.
These portrayals range from victimhood to resilience and teach us about strength, vulnerability and empathy.
To conclude, I'd like to say that we must recognise the complexity of each woman's experience and avoid sweeping judgements, because women are unique individuals, not a uniform group.
Answer: Speech comparing three texts' women, ending that each woman's challenges must be understood individually
