Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Total assets = total of equity and liabilities.

Hint 2

Capital employed = shareholders' funds + non-current liabilities.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Current assets = total assets − non-current assets = 6,00,000 − 5,20,000 = ₹ 80,000. Current liabilities = total assets − non-current liabilities − shareholders' funds = 6,00,000 − 1,40,000 − 4,20,000 = ₹ 40,000.

    1 mark
  2. (i) Current ratio = 80,000 / 40,000 = 2 : 1.

    1 mark
  3. Debt = non-current liabilities ₹ 1,40,000; capital employed = 4,20,000 + 1,40,000 = ₹ 5,60,000 (equally, 5,20,000 + 80,000 − 40,000).

    1 mark
  4. (ii) Debt to capital employed = 1,40,000 / 5,60,000 = 0.25 : 1 (1 : 4).

    1 mark

Answer: (i) Current ratio 2 : 1 (ii) Debt to capital employed 0.25 : 1
