Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Find the pro-rata ratio: applied to allotted.
Hint 2
Excess application money is adjusted against allotment.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
Applicants for 60,000 shares got 50,000: ratio 6 : 5. The applicant for 6,000 shares gets 5,000 shares and paid ₹ 18,000 on application against ₹ 15,000 due, an excess of ₹ 3,000.
- 1 mark
Allotment due = 5,000 × ₹ 4 = ₹ 20,000; received = ₹ 20,000 − ₹ 3,000 = ₹ 17,000. Option (D).
Answer: (D) ₹ 17,000
Where the marks are
- Excess application money ₹ 3,000 reduces allotment due (1 mark)
