Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
The debit shows who bears the expense.
Hint 2
The credit shows who paid it.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- 1 mark
Case I (Realisation A/c Dr., L's Capital A/c Cr.): the expense is a cost of the firm, so it is borne by the firm; L is credited because he paid it.
- 1 mark
Case II (L's Capital A/c Dr., P's Capital A/c Cr.): L is debited, so it is borne by L; P is credited, so it was paid by P on L's behalf.
- 1 mark
Case III (P's Capital A/c Dr., Cash A/c Cr.): P is debited, so it is borne by P; cash went out of the firm, so it was paid by the firm.
Answer: Case I: borne by firm, paid by L. Case II: borne by L, paid by P. Case III: borne by P, paid by firm
