Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Premium already received is not forfeited.

Hint 2

Only the reissued shares create capital reserve.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Ravi paid only the application money of ₹ 4, of which ₹ 1 is premium, so ₹ 3 per share of capital is forfeited (the unpaid allotment premium is debited to Securities Premium).

  2. Reissue of 2,000 shares at ₹ 9 as fully paid allows ₹ 1 discount: Capital Reserve = 2,000 × (₹ 3 − ₹ 1) = ₹ 4,000. Option (A).

    1 mark

Answer: (A) ₹ 4,000

Where the marks are

  • Forfeited ₹ 3 less discount ₹ 1 on 2,000 shares (1 mark)
