Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Net the reserve against the claim first.

Hint 2

Who gains and who sacrifices on moving from 4 : 3 : 2 to 1 : 1 : 1?

Hint 3

For a net loss, the sacrificing partner pays the gaining partner.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Leaving the books unaltered, the net effect is reserve ₹ 27,000 − claim ₹ 36,000 = a net loss of ₹ 9,000. A goes from 4/9 to 3/9 (sacrifice 1/9), B stays at 3/9, and C goes from 2/9 to 3/9 (gain 1/9).

  2. A gaining partner is compensated for a loss he did not share in: C gets 1/9 × ₹ 9,000 = ₹ 1,000 from A. Entry: A's Capital A/c Dr. ₹ 1,000 to C's Capital A/c. Option (A).

    1 mark

Answer: (A) A's Capital Dr. 1,000 To C's capital A/c 1,000

Where the marks are

  • Net loss ₹ 9,000 adjusted between sacrificing A and gaining C (1 mark)
