Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1

Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- 1 mark
Formation: Some plasma, proteins and blood cells escape through the pores in the walls of capillaries into the intercellular spaces of tissues. This fluid is the tissue fluid, called lymph, and it drains into lymphatic capillaries.
- 1 mark
Function: Lymph carries digested and absorbed fat from the intestine. It also drains excess fluid from the intercellular spaces back into the blood.
Answer: Lymph forms when plasma, proteins and blood cells leak through capillary pores into intercellular spaces; it carries absorbed fat from the intestine and returns excess tissue fluid to the blood.
Where the marks are
- Explains formation by leakage of plasma, proteins and blood cells through capillary pores into intercellular spaces (1 mark)
- States a function: carries absorbed fat or drains excess fluid back to blood (1 mark)
