CBSE Class 10 Science 2025: question 32

Set in the CBSE Class 10 board exam of 2025, paper 31/2/1, section C, question 32, for 3 marks. Try it first; the hints and our step-by-step solution are below.

Q32 · 3 marks · Short answerElectricity

Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

In series, resistances simply add up.

Hint 2

In parallel, the reciprocals add up. Use the LCM 6 for 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/6.

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. (i) Series diagram: the 2 Ω, 3 Ω and 6 Ω resistors are joined end to end in a single line between two terminals.

    ½ mark
  2. In series:

    ½ mark
  3. ½ mark
  4. (ii) Parallel diagram: the 2 Ω, 3 Ω and 6 Ω resistors are each connected between the same two junction points, forming three separate branches.

    ½ mark
  5. In parallel:

    ½ mark
  6. ½ mark

Answer: (i) Series: 11 Ω; (ii) Parallel: 1 Ω

Where the marks are

  • Series circuit diagram (½ mark)
  • Series formula (½ mark)
  • R_s = 11 Ω (½ mark)
  • Parallel circuit diagram (½ mark)
  • Parallel formula with substitution (½ mark)
  • R_p = 1 Ω (½ mark)
