  1. (A)As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, shorter wavelengths, such as blue are scattered more than other colors.
  2. (B)The sky appears blue because all colors are scattered equally, but blue light is stronger and more visible to the human eye.

Hints

Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.

Hint 1

Which phenomenon of light explains the colour of the sky?

Hint 2

Do small particles scatter shorter or longer wavelengths more?

Step-by-step solution

Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.

  1. Air molecules are much smaller than the wavelength of visible light. They scatter shorter wavelengths (blue end) much more strongly than longer ones (red end).

  2. This scattered blue light reaches our eyes from all directions, so the sky looks blue. Our eyes are also more sensitive to blue than to violet. Option (A).

Answer: Option (A)

Where the marks are
