CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Standard 2026: question 30
Set in the CBSE Class 10 board exam of 2026, paper 30/3/1, section C, question 30, for 3 marks. Try it first; the hints and our step-by-step solution are below.
Q30 · 3 marks · Short answerCoordinate Geometry

Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
The y-coordinate of P is known. Use it in the section formula with ratio k : 1.
Hint 2
Once you have the ratio, use the section formula for the x-coordinate.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- ½ mark
Let P divide AB in the ratio , that is, .
- 1 mark
Using the section formula for the y-coordinate:
- ½ mark
So the ratio is .
- 1 mark
Using the section formula for the x-coordinate with ratio :
Answer: Ratio 3 : 2;
Where the marks are
- Takes the ratio as k : 1 (½ mark)
- Uses the y-coordinate in the section formula to get k = 3/2 (1 mark)
- States the ratio 3 : 2 (½ mark)
- Finds x = 11/5 (1 mark)
