Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Plot the four points, or compare the opposite sides.
Hint 2
Check whether the diagonals are equal to decide between a rectangle and a parallelogram.
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
AB joins (9,0) and (9,−6), and CD joins (−9,0) and (−9,6). Both are vertical with length 6, so AB ∥ CD and AB = CD.
Slope of BC and slope of DA , so BC ∥ DA. Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
- 1 mark
Diagonal AC and diagonal BD . These are unequal, so ABCD is not a rectangle or a square. It is a parallelogram, option (C).
Answer: Parallelogram, option (C)
Where the marks are
- Shows both pairs of opposite sides are parallel and the diagonals are unequal, so ABCD is a parallelogram, option (C) (1 mark)
