Hints
Open one hint at a time and try again before the next.
Hint 1
Each removed piece is a sector of a circle of radius 14 cm.
Hint 2
The three sector angles are the angles of the triangle. What do they add up to?
Step-by-step solution
Each step shows the marks it earns, as an examiner would award them. Checked by an independent re-solve from the question paper.
- ½ mark
Each removed portion is a sector of radius cm. Its angle is the angle of the triangle at that vertex.
- ½ mark
Take common: [angle sum property of a triangle].
- ½ mark
Substitute the values: .
- ½ mark
So the total area removed is .
Answer: 308 cm²
Where the marks are
- Writes the total area as the sum of three sector areas (1/2 mark)
- Uses ∠A + ∠B + ∠C = 180° to get (1/2 mark)
- Substitutes r = 14 cm and π = 22/7 (1/2 mark)
- Gets 308 cm² (1/2 mark)
