Notice, Classified and Display Advertisement and Poster: ICSE Class 8
Updated 17 October 2026 · Fact-checked
A notice informs a group in six short lines: creative title, event, date, time, venue and participation. A classified advertisement is compact and factual with what, price and contact. A display advertisement persuades with a slogan, features and an offer. A poster works in four layers: slogan, visual idea, key information and an appeal with the issuer.
Notice how each format has its own layout: a notice has six short lines, a classified is compact, a display ad has a big slogan, and a poster has four layers.

Understand Notice, Advertisement and Poster: Formats and Wording
The notice. A notice normally carries: the heading NOTICE; the name of the issuing school or body; the date of issue; a short, catchy title; the body; and the writer's name and designation (the signature). The notice has six short lines, including the creative title: the title; the event's full name; the date with day, month and year; the time with start, end and a.m. or p.m.; the venue (room or hall first, then building and school); and participation (who may take part, whom to give names to, and by when, the only full sentence). The deadline must fall after the notice goes up and before the event.
Classified advertisements. Under headings such as For Sale, To Let, Lost and Found, Situations Vacant. Charged by the word or line, so use phrases, not sentences: what (item, room, job) with key features, price or terms, and contact (name, phone, best time). Leave out filler such as "We are pleased to inform you".
Display advertisements. A slogan that grabs attention (rhyme, alliteration, a question); the name of the product; features and benefits; offers and dates; contact or address. Use persuasive but believable language. Layout: slogan in big letters, details below.
Posters. Four layers: slogan at the top; a visual idea described in brackets; three or four key facts; appeal and issuer ("Issued by the Eco Club"). Use capital letters, boxes and spacing; avoid long sentences.
Choosing the form. Inform members of an organisation: a notice. Sell, buy, rent or find something, or announce a job: an advertisement. Spread awareness or promote an event to the public: a poster.
