ICSE Class 10 Notice Writing: Title, Dates, Venue and Common Errors

Updated 18 October 2026 · Fact-checked

Question 3(i) is a school notice for 5 marks with six elements: a short creative title, the event name, one date with the year, the time, the venue from the smaller to the larger place, and a participation line saying whom to register with and by when. Keep each element on its own line with no NOTICE heading, box or signature, and set the deadline two to three days after the notice.

Understand Board Notice: Title, Dates, Venue and Examiner Errors (ICSE Class 10)

Question. Notice writing is Question 3(i), carries 5 marks and is followed by an e-mail on the same situation. The situation is a school event such as a competition, remedial classes or a festival.

Creative title. About three words or fewer, catchy and not repeating the question's words. The chapter page lists examiner criticisms: titles that reuse words like "story" or "writing", vague titles that fit any event and titles that are too long.

Event. The full name on its own line.

Date. One date with the year. The chapter page says a date a week or fortnight away is accepted and the registration deadline should be about 2 to 3 days after the notice, and before the event.

Time. For example 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m., with a.m. and p.m. in lower case.

Venue. The exact room or hall first, then the building or school. "In school" is too vague.

Participation. Who may take part, the person to register with and the deadline. Only this line is a full sentence.

Layout. One element per line. Examiners criticise one long paragraph and extra lines after the venue. There is no NOTICE heading, box or signature in the CISCE format.

Link. Keep a copy of every detail for the e-mail that follows.
